I have seen quite a few parents at conferences this week, so thank you to those who have come already! It is always nice to sit down and meet parents of students who are in class.
Econ - This week we finished up the children's books and the students presented them on Wednesday to the class. They turned out very well! We also have continued working on unit three and will continue to for the next two weeks. We have been looking at business structures and business organizations and will be moving to components of money and then stocks and bonds. The students will be tracking stocks in a couple of weeks every day for 20 school days and at the end they will have to graph the numbers they get. It is interesting to see the trends, even over a short period of time, in the market.
US History - The students finished up unit two on Monday and Tuesday this week and are now just starting unit 3 - Expansionism. The students seem to have some prior knowledge of this unit, which is great! On Tuesday and Wednesday this week the students read excerpts from "How the Other Half Live" and "The Jungle" and seemed to be fascinated by them. I think they had a hard time believing that the conditions during the Industrial Revolution were really that bad!
Enjoy the long weekend!
