In US history we worked on some basic fundamentals of US history. They spent time looking at the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The also did some partner work with the amendments. They had a good week. They will have a quiz on Monday covering some of the amendments. Their unit 1 test for right now is scheduled for Wednesday next week.
The econ students worked on finishing up unit one, the basics of economics. They did a great job! See my previous post to see how well they did. Next week we will starting unit two which deals with supply and demand. This is one of the more challenging units they will see in this class. It is not challenging in the regard of content, but it is hard for students not to mix up supply and demand with the graphs and shifting. I will work with them to help them remember which is which.

I am so impressed!!! My econ classes on their multiple choice and matching got the highest scores any class has ever received on it in the past!. One class average was an 88.67% and the other class had a 91%. They did great! Happy weekend!
Econ - This week we spent time working on more basics of economics. The students learned terms like Market, Specialization, Incentive, Communism, Socialism, The Invisible Hand, and more. They seem to be doing well and I am very hopeful that they will increase by at lease 20% on their unit one test from the pre test they took the 2nd day of school. Next week we will be finishing unit 1.
U.S. History - We finished up our quick intro unit on The War on Terror. The students had part one of their test today, including the essay, and will do their mapping tomorrow. They learned about the different tactics that the US has used to combat terrorism, as well as what the terrorist groups are. Next week we will be starting Unit 1 and will be focusing on The Constitution among other things. So far it has been a great two weeks. I only have two no names on my cabinet, so that it huge! They are doing a nice job! The students will be taking their unit one econ test next Friday, 9/25/15. They will be getting their review sheets tomorrow in class.
There will be an open house next week at the high school for anyone that is interested. Here is the schedule we were given:
6:20 - Auditorium Lobby, Pick up Skyward username and password to access your student’s schedule, grades, and attendance, ONLINE. 6:30 - Auditorium, Meet the new principal, brief presentation. 6:50 - Released to first class 7:00 - Period 1 7:10 - passing 7:15 - P2 7:25 - passing 7:30 - P3 7:40 - passing 7:45 - P4 7:55 - passing 8:00 - P5 8:10 - end of school The first week went fast! I have enjoyed getting to know all of my students this week! In Economics this week we started basic ideas of econ, including: scarcity, needs, wants, opportunity costs, entrepreneurs, and trade off's. We will continue with this into next week and will have the unit test for unit 1 the following week. Their prior knowledge of the material is strong, which is great. It really helps us get started and moving when they can jump in and have a discussion with me right away. For U.S. History this week we have been focusing on the unit, The war on Terror. Because 9/11 happens at the begging of the school year it makes sense to start with this unit and include that element into it. We have spent quite a bit of time discussing 9/11 and the different elements involved with it. I can tell that people have spent time with the students talking about these events and I appreciate that. It is so important that the students get that from other places than just here at school. I am looking forward to the rest of the semester and all the great things we will get to learn about. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact me at [email protected]. Have a great first weekend.
